Own Lane, Own Rules: A Model Who Created His Own Path
In the heart of downtown San Diego, model and artist Stephan Adam turns the urban canvas into a stage of self-expression. With over five years of modeling experience and a creative spirit rooted in defiance and self-determination, Stephan shares a deeply personal story through striking portraits and raw reflections.
Shot amidst steel lines, benches, shadows, and the city’s kinetic pulse, this series is more than a fashion shoot — it’s a visual diary of resilience, control, and creative rebirth. Stephan’s story proves that art can be carved out of hardship, and identity can be claimed — not given.
Interview with Stephan Adam
VIONNE: Stephan, this series feels very personal. How did you approach it to make it truly reflect your identity as a model and artist?
Stephan: It's just when you went through a lot in your life. Also learning myself. You have to use the stuff in your past that has happened to you to turn it into something great, which is modeling for me. And I feel that is my identity. Just a lot of motivation.
VIONNE: You mentioned the shoot took place in downtown San Diego — a setting you clearly love. What is it about that environment that brings out your best on camera?
Stephan: Just a lot of activity that's going around. It's a lot of energy when i'm there. You're always finding something as an inspiration. And that's how I bring the attitude into modeling with it there's definitely a lot of art a lot of energy whether you're in a good space or in bad space, you can turn it into something that's the reason why I love downtown San Diego.
VIONNE: You said you've always done things your way. What was a key moment in your career where going against the grain really paid off?
Stephan: For the first time in my life, I actually found something where I have complete controlling. And that's what I mean doing things my way and is accepted by a lot of people like a lot of people appreciate what I do. And a time where it felt like it was paid off was definitely last year, being on a Macy's runway, which is a major thing to me. Because I didn't think that was going to happen anytime soon, but I'm grateful it did.
VIONNE: What does “being in control” mean to you in the context of your modeling career?
Stephan: being in control just really means being free. Being able to voice my opinion when i'm working with the photographer.
VIONNE: Looking ahead to 2026 — what are some goals or creative challenges you want to take on this year?
Stephan: definitely wanting to work with brands in LA. Definitely want to be more creative in a lot of my shoots where I feel comfortable and eventually start my own agency.
VIONNE: Many models talk about “finding their lane.” You say you created one. What makes your approach to modeling unique?
Stephan: My lane was always been unique and clean. Where it's not disrespectful it's appreciated. Also just being able to stand out from the rest.
VIONNE: Beyond the camera — what fuels your creativity? Are there passions or disciplines outside modeling that shape how you express yourself?
Stephan: It's a real simple answer. What I see around me. And I say, how can I put that into modeling. Just going to the gym then meditating after is a great discipline for me.
