Interview with Sophie Andersen
VIONNE: Sophie, you have a strong background in both styling and jewelry design. How has your experience as a stylist influenced the way you approach creating jewelry today?
Sophie: Thank you! First I want to express my happiness - I am so glad that there is a new „girl“ in town – the VIONNE Magazine! Coming back to your question. Good jewelry and good styling can help you meet yourself. It reminds you to have fun! The word jewelry comes from the french word 'jouer' – to play. I feel honored when my ladies are trying out new styles and maybe meeting a new self.
VIONNE: Your latest pieces feature unique touches like toggle clasps, peach gold tones, and pearl-metal combinations. What drew you to explore these particular trends right now?
Sophie: Peach Gold is my newest invention. Or, perhaps, I should say discovery? A lot of my customer choose yellow or rosegold. I figured out that peach gold is such a fitting and soothing color for our skin tone. Very feminine and even regal. Pearl Metal and Metal Mixing is my way of showing the world that material can be combined. Which brings me to toggle clasps – A clapse that was first used during the Art Nouveau (1880-1915). We can combine old and new, silver and gold. And chain rings! Why not wear a chain as a ring?
VIONNE: We noticed a beautiful balance of boldness and elegance in your designs — how do you find harmony between statement pieces and timeless minimalism?
Sophie: Thank you so much! This really means the world to me. As we know we are all different. One girl favors fine jewelry the next one bold and unique. At the moment the heavy jewelry is inspired by the 80ies and the filigree pieces with diamonds are, to be honest, first samples. I really wanted to try out both. This natural mixing is probably due to my multiple personalities.
VIONNE: You're currently taking goldsmithing courses — how important is it for you to stay hands-on and continue evolving your technical craftsmanship?
Sophie: Craftsmanship is very important. As my grandmother always said: „Craftsmanship has a golden future“. The laser technique is the laser technique. Just a little heat with huge impact. You need a very steady hand otherwise you'll burn your fingers.
VIONNE: What do you hope people feel when they wear Sandersen Jewelry? And how do you define your customer today?
Sophie: Just today one of my customers told me about her daughter. She always wants to wear her mother's pieces. It is really hard to definde my customer. Age but style wise as well. I went to a french school and was very forged by that. So lots of chic, fun and classics. I feel so proud that the ladies like my jewels. What I want them to feel when they wear a piece? Happy and unique of course! Thank you for the questions, I really enjoyed our collababoration. Merci beaucoup!
