Black & White Energy

With RAW & UNCUT, Jeffrey Sielski steps beyond the precision of the studio and into the unpredictable rhythm of the streets. Stripped of control and guided by instinct, this series embraces the raw essence of black-and-white photography—where light, movement, and emotion unfold in real time. Set against the textured backdrop of New York City, the images capture a sense of immediacy, allowing each frame to exist without over-refinement or constraint.

At the center of this visual narrative is Helen Chi, whose presence anchors the series with effortless strength. Her natural confidence and adaptability mirror the spontaneity of the environment, transforming everyday locations into striking compositions. Together, photographer and model create a dialogue between structure and freedom—where the absence of excess becomes the strongest statement.

Interview with Jeffrey Sielski

VIONNE: Jeffrey, RAW & UNCUT marks your move from studio to outdoor shooting. What inspired you to step into natural light for this project?

Jeffrey: I have been wanting to do a new set of projects outdoors with natural light but I want it only in B&W a more raw & freestyle look.

VIONNE: Your work is often defined by controlled studio environments—how did working with natural light shift your creative mindset on set?

Jeffrey: That is true, it is a different style of shooting, on the streets of NYC it is not hard to find amazing locations.

VIONNE: How did the outdoor setting influence the mood and storytelling of the shoot?

Jeffrey: Knowing this is project is in B&W & the locations we were at I just let flow naturally.

VIONNE: Helen Chi brings a strong presence to these frames. What made her the right model to translate this more unfiltered, natural concept?

Jeffrey: Helen is always amazing to work with she is excellent, her looks & style made this shoot very successful.

VIONNE: Shooting outdoors comes with unpredictability—light, movement, environment. How did you control those variables during the shoot?

Jeffrey: Very true, just always watching the light how it is falling on the model, the angles & making any adjustments as needed..

VIONNE: Compared to your usual studio work, did you find more freedom or more challenges working on location?

Jeffrey: Honestly its is a combination of both..

VIONNE: The title RAW & UNCUT suggests authenticity and minimal interference. How did that philosophy guide your approach to styling, posing, and retouch?

Jeffrey: I wanted a clothing look that was also b&w to balance everything out, studio shoot is very polished, this shoot I wanted a more free approach..

VIONNE: After this experience, do you see outdoor photography becoming a stronger part of your creative direction moving forward?

Jeffrey: Within this style of B&W yes there a few more shoots coming stay tuned.
