Beyond the Image
With Oltre l’immagine: vestire il ritorno a sé, Italian designer Valeria Rosi explores the distance between who we are and the identities we learn to perform for others. Rather than approaching childhood through nostalgia, the collection looks back to an earlier, more instinctive state — one shaped by gestures, domestic spaces, familiar objects and the freedom that exists before conformity takes hold. Photographed by Ginevra Schiavolin on model Rebecca Rossi, the editorial translates that idea through oversized proportions, enveloping forms and deliberately exaggerated silhouettes. Pale blue volumes meet a vivid hand-worked red collar, while the rustic interior setting reinforces the feeling of returning to something intimate, tactile and emotionally familiar.
Rosi’s design language makes construction itself part of the story. Sculptural collars, extended sleeves and exposed structural details bring traditionally hidden elements to the surface, dissolving the line between control and spontaneity. Handcrafted techniques including crochet, embroidery and textile manipulation add another layer of intimacy, positioning the garment as something to be examined rather than simply worn. In Oltre, fashion becomes a space for dismantling the image imposed from outside and rebuilding something more personal in its place — a wardrobe that does not ask the wearer to become someone else, but instead encourages a return to the self beneath expectation.
