The Sound Of ANTO
With her fifth single on the way — recorded in Berlin and set to release in September — Austrian singer ANTO continues to define her unique sound. After standout tracks like Malibu Guy, Halfway, and Free Fall, she now opens up in a new VIONNE interview about her creative journey, fashion moments, and what’s coming next.
Interview with ANTO
VIONNE: Your new song will be released in September. What can you tell us about the track? How did the writing and recording process unfold during your time in Berlin?
ANTO: This track is going to have a more soulful vibe compared to my previous pop music. It's reminiscent of my first track, "Malibu Guy." It carries a groovy element; those who have heard it have said, "Wow, that’s something unique," so be excited and prepared! I actually wrote the song on my way to Berlin while I was on the plane. I had other demos ready, but as I sat there, an idea came to me that I just had to write down. The recording process was intense but incredibly fun! We worked nonstop for a week, but it was amazing.
VIONNE: Your lyrics often carry emotional depth and honesty. What role does vulnerability play in your songwriting process?
ANTO: As an artist, I feel that every time I release a song, I expose my vulnerability because I’m telling a story rooted in my personal experiences. At the same time, I think that embracing vulnerability is one of the bravest things you can do. It allows you to inspire others and helps them feel less alone in their own emotions. We are all human, and too often we take ourselves too seriously. Ultimately, we share similar challenges and struggles.
VIONNE: Is there a specific artist or experience that shaped your musical identity early on?
ANTO: I feel like I’m still at the beginning of my journey as an artist. However, over the past year, many events have occurred that have helped shape my identity. I’m beginning to understand more clearly who I want to be as an artist. Specifically, I am a huge fan of Amy Winehouse. I admire her songwriting and lyrics, her incredible voice, and, most importantly, her honesty and groundedness.
VIONNE: You performed at Vienna Fashion Week for Manuel Essl. How did it feel to combine your music with a high-fashion event?
ANTO: It was an amazing experience and a great honor to perform at Manuel Essl's fashion show. My music and the fashion event felt like a perfect match, and I really enjoyed the whole experience. Everything just came together perfectly!
VIONNE: What’s on the horizon after the new release — any upcoming projects, collaborations, or personal goals you’re excited about?
ANTO: I am genuinely excited about this release, as it represents the direction I want to take as an artist. In the near future, I’ll be spending a lot more time in the studio to produce additional songs that I can perform live. My personal goal is to become an artist who inspires others, serves as a role model, and touches people’s hearts. I want to create something new meaningful & iconic.
